Advanced Certificate in Pāli Language

This course module aims to assist participants in understanding the foundational aspects of the Pāli language and its rich literary tradition. The objective is to help students appreciate the importance of vocabulary and basic grammatical forms of Pāli, and to recognize how these components enhance their listening, speaking, writing, reading, and comprehension skills. Context and examples will be drawn from ancient Buddhist texts and Sri Lankan Pāli literature, providing students with a clear view of the salient features of Pāli literature and the cultural and historical context in which it developed.

This module will lay the groundwork for further studies in Pāli, enabling students to engage deeply with Buddhist teachings and literary works.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a pass for the Sri Lankan Final Examination of Piriven or Having a pass for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination conducted by the Department of Education, Sri Lanka or Academic qualifications equal to Sri Lankan G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) accepted by the senate of the institute.

Course Fee

The course fee is presently Rs. 20,000. This all-inclusive fee is charged to cover lectures, tutorials and examinations and access to computer laboratory facilities and library.

Normally, fees paid will not be refunded. However, requests for refund of fees may be considered if made before the expiry of one week from the date of commencement of lectures for each semester.
